This manuscript was written prior to 1660, according to Noemi Speiser
in her Old English Pattern Books for Loop Braiding, 2000,
Switzerland.
My thanks to Alan Davies, Archivist at Wigan Archives Service.
The braid instructions are not numbered in the manuscript. I have
numbered them for convenience. In the transcript, I have preserved
spelling, crossings out and punctuation as best I could. Many times
the number 'one' was dotted, including i0, i5, etc., but I have left
this out.
The images below are reduced resolution. If you suspect a mistake in
the transcription, please contact us, and we'll check it for you. We
didn't include images of the full manuscript because it's an
unpublished manuscript; however, you can contact Wigan Archives
Service if you'd like your own photocopy. Please do not reproduce
these images.
